South-East
Asia University celebrated its twenty-eighth anniversary
in 2001. In the twenty-eight years since its establishment,
SAU has attempted to prepare well-educated and responsible
individuals for the continuing economic/industrial development
of Thailand.
Having
graduated almost 30,000 students in those twenty-eight
years, SAU feels a certain amount of pride in accomplishing
many of the educational goals that it set for itself and
its students. However, a dynamic educational institution
cannot sit back and reflect on its past accomplishments.
It must constantly strive for excellence while continuing
to pursue the educational goals that each new generation
requires. For each generation, in a constantly changing
world, will modify its social, political, and economic
ambitions. For instance, during the Cold War there was
fierce competition between the communist economic system
and the free enterprise system. This competition influenced
the educational goals of both systems. With the breakup
of the Soviet Union, a new era of cooperation between
nations has emerged and is already influencing the educational
goals of educators and their institutes.
Many
of the nations that have been affected by these world-shaking
events are located in East Asia. Occupying a key location
and having one of the strongest and-at one time-fastest
growing economies in the region, Thailand has accepted
the responsibility to assist and guide other fledgling
democracies into more viable political and economic relations
within the region. A national recognition of regional
responsibilities demands the support and agreement of
all facets of a society. Providing quality education is
one of the most important. SAU has recognized its role
in supporting the national and regional goals.
This
